enteramente ( ehn-teh-rah-mehn'-the )

(adverb) completely, entirely

Sylyon1976 is the official corrector for the Spanish sentences. Please correct your posts according to her suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Oh no! "enteramente" is not a very common word. "Completamente", "Por completo" are a lot more common. We'll see how this goes. :-) - 00e46f15, Oct 1, 2013

It´s the bit between the wheels, above the motor, and under the tank, that holds it all together. http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z446/rogbuc/sv650/medsparkytn_634.jpg - rogspax, Oct 1, 2013

I say tomahto and you say tomato, but is it aluminum or aluminium? :-) - 0095ca4c, Oct 1, 2013
I thought of that when posting. I of course learned Aluminum from American English, and then later Aluminium, from German, and then only later still, that it was the same in British English. Was a surprise to me. - rogspax, Oct 1, 2013
I think, that "frame" in this case is "armazón". "Este armazón es enteramente de aluminio."-- But, I am not an expert on motorcycle parts. :-) - 00e46f15, Oct 1, 2013

... con la política en..." JR, "con las políticas" means "with the policies". I think either way, their policies and their politics, I agree with you! I'm telling you, we need term limits! These politicians are very comfortable with their positions. - 00e46f15, Oct 1, 2013
Gracias susy! I would like to see how many of the politicians would stand up for their "values" if it meant that they would be out of a paycheck or healthcare! - Jraider, Oct 1, 2013

Good question lilium. :-) - 0095ca4c, Oct 1, 2013
Hola Margherite, I'm confused with today's word :) Can I say "un vaso enteramente lleno"? It sounds better to me: "un vaso completamente lleno". When to use enteramente? - 00b5f6c6, Oct 1, 2013
Hi lilium. To me, the meanings are different. With entirely, I would use it like 'a glass entirely filled with something specific' while 'completely would mean (to me) 'filled to the top'. That's just my guess though. I'm sure sylyon will set us straight. - 0095ca4c, Oct 1, 2013
I agree, to me your second example sounds better, but we'll have to wait and see. - 0095ca4c, Oct 1, 2013
Many words in English translate awkwardly to Spanish:) - Jraider, Oct 1, 2013
Thanks Margerite :) Hello Jraider :) - 00b5f6c6, Oct 1, 2013
"Enteramente" significa totalmente, del todo, de manera completa y total. Completamente significa cumplidamente, sin que nada falte. Los dos son sinónimos, entonces depende de la situación. "Enteramente" no es tan común como "completamente", o - 00e46f15, Oct 1, 2013
..."por completo". "Enteramente", as a whole, or wholly, entirely. "Completamente" or "completely". Yo diría que "enteramente" es más formal que "completamente", pero también depende de dónde vives. Entre más practicas el español con otra gente, te vas - 00e46f15, Oct 1, 2013
... dando cuenta de cuándo usar y cuándo no usar palabras. Simplemente "quedan" mejor. No creo que te ayudé mucho. Tal vez te confundí más! -- Saludos! - 00e46f15, Oct 1, 2013
