The official language of Costa Rica is Spanish as Helind stated. Moreover, the Spanish in Costa Rica is a little different than the majority of other countries. It is generally spoken slower and has many "Tico" words only used here as well as Spanish words with different definitions not found in the dictionary.

However, in the caribbean areas of Costa Rica Patois (patuá in Spanish) is an unofficial and nonstandard language that has Jamaican roots and English based. At times you can hear people speaking Spanish with some Patois words. Also heard in Regeton and other music.
