the difference between cuarto de baño and baño
what's the difference between cuarto de baño and baño?

Hi there,
Cuarto de baño = bathroom. This one is easy to remember because cuarto means (among other things) room, as in a room in your house.
- ¡Estás castigado, quédate en tu cuarto! - You're grounded stay in your room!
Cuarto holds the same meaning as habitación but it is used in specific cases. And your example is one of them: you cannot say habitación de baño; that would sound very weird.
Baño means a bath:
- Voy a darme un baño. I'm taking a bath (bathtub) / I'm going for a swim (beach).
But you'll usually hear from native speakers use the word baño when referring to the toilet.
- Necesito ir al baño. - I need to go to the toilet.
And sometimes we use baño when we should use cuarto de baño, just because of economy of the language (to shorten phrases):
- ¿Cuántos baños tiene esta casa? - How many bathrooms are there in this house?.
- Te pasas el día metida en el baño. - You are always stuck in the bathroom.
I hope this helped.

RelaxingCup has already given an excellent answer. I will only clarify one thing.
cuarto (Spanish) = quarter (English)
Both cuarto and quarter have several meanings; one of them is room/space.
Cuarto de baño is more formal, that's all.
