help on using decir

Hi,
I am trying to say 'yesterday i received a text to say that...' so would it translate to 'Ayer recibí un texto para decir que...' or would I have to conjugate decir into 3rd person? Or is there a better way of saying this?

Try changing the English sentence to
Yesterday I received a text that said .............

Your sentence is correct but ackward. Try ian-hill's suggestion.
