How to talk about measurement?

How would you say these phrases in Spanish?

  • It's X feet tall.
  • It's X feet wide.
  • It's X feet deep.

My guesses for height are:

  1. Mide X pies de alto / altura.
  2. Es / está X pies de alto / altura.
  3. Es / está X pies alto.

I know Spanish, when literally translated back to English, sounds more stiff, so that's why I guessed 1 (It measures X feet of height).

3 would be the direct translation. However, I don't know whether to use "es" or "está". Height can always change. A tree can grow. A boy can grow. But once a boy becomes a man, his height reaches a peak. So do you use "está" for boys and "es" for full grown men?

-Well pretty much the same.

Sí tengo un refri a vender. ¿Los dimensiones? Son de XX de alto, XX de largo y XX de ancho.

As for height of a person the verb most commonly used is Tener.

¿Cuánto mides tú?

Tengo 1.80 de altura or Mido 1.80.

Why is "son" used for a singular "refri"? - tokyotech, Sep 13, 2013
son is for dimensiones not refir - 0571cc19f5, Sep 13, 2013

medir is the verb generally used for measurements.

I just looked up a website in Spanish that sells appliances. They use the following;

Height - alto Width - largo Depth - ancho

copied from the website:

Medidas (largo×ancho×alto): 90 × 80 × 177 cms.

That's how it's listed on a website, but how do you use it in conversation? - tokyotech, Sep 10, 2013
