Practise expressions that use Por and para

*I rewrote expressions that use Por and Para from the section "Spanish grammar- Advanced expressions with Por and Para".

*Just choose one expression and write a sentence using it (I think it's a good way to memorize it).

*It's easy, for example: Por su puesto, pueden poner fotos si ustedes quieren.

Expressions that use Para: -estar para -para abajo -para adelante -para detrás -para entonces -para esa época -para otra vez -para que (so that, in order that) -¿para qué? (why, for what purpose?)

As far as I'm concerned, Atlantis really existed once upon a time.

A veces traducciones literales, o palabra por palabra, llevan a resultados raros.

Sometimes literal or word for word translations lead to weird results.

Your examples always seem to be ready to use in practice, they would make an excellent phrase-book if compiled :) Is the double ''que'' a typo or it's meaningful? - Manity, Sep 11, 2013
I think it's a typo. - 00b5f6c6, Sep 11, 2013
Definitely a typo. Thanks Manity for finding it. I fear your phrase book would need some serious editing since I make a lot of mistakes still in Spanish. ;o) - katydew, Sep 13, 2013

Hi Katy, I think you'll find that 'para allá' works better for direction, such as in your example 'that way'. Por ahí is for location and means 'around here'. ;) - Kiwi-Girl, Sep 11, 2013
Thanks Kiwi. - katydew, Sep 11, 2013

Por lo visto, suponía ir al parque en lugar de la esquina para reunirse contigo.

Apparently, I was supposed to go to the park, instead of the corner to meet up with you.

I see that ''on all sides'' is the translation given for this expression but it sounds a bit odd. Can anyone confirm if there's an actual difference in meaning between por todas partes and por todos lados? - Manity, Sep 10, 2013
I don't know Manity, I just know that "por todos lados" is translated like "on all sides" and "por todas partes" => "everywhere". - 00b5f6c6, Sep 10, 2013
It doesn't sound right in this context. Maybe the Spanish does though. :) - rac1, Sep 10, 2013
Por todos lados is also translated as 'everywhere' ;) - Kiwi-Girl, Sep 11, 2013
Hi Kiwi girl!! What's the difference betwen "por todos lados" and "por todas partes" if the translation is the same? Thanks in advance. - 00b5f6c6, Sep 11, 2013

I wonder if 'de hecho' might work better for 'as a matter of fact', whereas 'por lo demás'' is often translated as 'besides', 'furthermore', 'moreover' etc - Kiwi-Girl, Sep 13, 2013
si lo dices asi se cumplira - VictorM21, Sep 13, 2013

Hi Kiwi girl!! What's the difference betwen "por todos lados" and "por todas partes" if the translation is the same? Thanks in advance. - lilium

Hey Lilium, they are interchangeable when it comes to translating 'everywhere' - there is no difference.

Everywhere
