Conoce tus derechos y hazlos valer

This is a banner here in La Paz. I am having trouble with "valer" at the end.
It seems to me it should read, "Conoce tus derechos y hazlos tener valor."
"Know your rights and make them have value."
Any ideas?

hazlos valer means "Assert them or Exercise them"
