Why are the moderators on this site so heavy handed?

This is getting ridiculous. Any any valid questioning (apparently there is no such thing) is quashed like we´re in Syria. Thank god one can´t send sarin over the interwebs.

It´s hard to feel welcome here. I doubt the sites actual owners would care to see how many people are being alienated, and how it will reflect in their recommendations of this site, or the sister pay sites such as Fluencia. I like them both, but... - rogspax, Aug 30, 2013
Plus whatever goofy tiff there was, valid or not, seemed to have been settled. Smacks of moderators not understanging the word moderation or having personal feelings over involved. But, to be fair to them, I could be wrong. They´ve generally been cool. - rogspax, Aug 30, 2013

Excuse me?? What have I ever done to you? - rac1, Aug 30, 2013
rac1 you are a sunshine. I assume that you are not who is closing all this posts and who banned gringojrf. - 003492fc, Aug 30, 2013

I can't agree more. I though I was the only that thinks that it is starting to be ridiculous. I see posts closed everywhere.

[Feel free to correct my English. Thank you] [Please, reinstate gringojrf]

The correct word would be "publicación" But I always use the anglicism: post. - 003492fc, Aug 30, 2013

This thread will probably be closed as well.

Overall I think the moderation is OK, but in some areas I think the moderation in general here could be improved a little. WordReference moderators can be Natzi's at times, but they run a good ship. Lot's lessons to learned from them.

If anybody who can do anything about is interested I'd be more than happy to offer some concrete suggestions.

I would love to hear them... Could you send me a PM? - NikkiLR, Aug 30, 2013
PMs were not working a short while ago amiga - ian-hill, Aug 30, 2013
I saw the post... I just sent one, though. :) Are they still not working for you? - NikkiLR, Aug 30, 2013
They might be not working yet because I sent today 2 different PM's to a moderator (bandit51jd) and I still don't have a response. - 003492fc, Aug 30, 2013
Well I can tell you one thing..Wordref would never allow a post like this! - rac1, Aug 30, 2013
I am am member there and I can tell you, they are strict! - rac1, Aug 30, 2013

Ok me too.

WE have members of our parliament who would just love to have that their decisions go unchallenged - luckily democracy sometimes prevents that.

Tenemos miembros de nuestro parlamento que le encantaría contar con que sus decisiones queden sin respuesta - afortunadamente la democracia a veces impide.

There are many forms of adiction - one is the need to execise power.

They make it clear it´s not a democracy here, which is fair, because it isn´t. But, it may not be clever from a capitalist standpoint either. Who sees this stuff and wants to say (which drives advertiser clicks) much less fork over their money... - rogspax, Aug 30, 2013

The biggest thing I would change about this site is the prohibition of discussing swear words. Bad language is such a huge part of any language and should be allowed to be discussed from a linguistic standpoint. But that's just me.

But it IS a tricky element of language to discuss on a family friendly site. - ian-hill, Aug 30, 2013
I'm not interested in bad language personally and I think "the kids" High School Spanish 1 & 2 would just come for that and not learning. I think it's a valid topic, but maybe in another forum. I learned really raunchy French when I was young - Jubilado, Aug 30, 2013
but it did nothing for me emotionally which is where we are connected to swear words. I always think it's ridiculous when I hear a non-native English speaker "cussin'" in an accent. It loses all its punch! - Jubilado, Aug 30, 2013

I love this site.

I enjoy every minute I spend answering questions in English because it helps me improve my English and helps other people learn Spanish. It's a win-win situation.

But I am afraid that in a year.. or next week... or tomorrow I will be banned because a moderator doesn't share my opinion. Didn't gringojrf earn a little bit of credit after more than 30K points of reputation?

I am about 2 seconds away from closing this post myself. This is not conducive to learning at all. I understand that you have concerns, but calling people out by name and lumping all of the "moderators" together is very unfair and insensitive. I volunteer my time here and I do the best dogone job I can do. I don't appreciate the hateful things said here. If you have legitimate complaints, send a pm to the mod or send it to the admins. through feedback.

Thanks guys

I am so sorry rac1. This has nothing to do with you and you know it. - 003492fc, Aug 31, 2013
Personally, I have been all day trying to get an answer and this is getting exasperating. Why was gringojrf banned? Why? Is there a legitimate cause? - 003492fc, Aug 31, 2013
I mean, Gringo - rac1, Aug 31, 2013
You have to send something to feedback, I guess, since the pm's are not working. I cannot discuss another members status or whatever with another member. It is up to grigo or the admis. - rac1, Aug 31, 2013
I am trying. PM's don't work for me. Feedback seems to be working and I've just have sent a message because I am just looking for an answer. Thank you rac1. I will keep trying. - 003492fc, Aug 31, 2013

Come on, folks, moderators are needed on this site, and all others! They are doing a thankless job. I am glad I don't have to do what they do.

I appreciate the opportunity to learn something!

Forgive my curiosity:

He said bandit had it out for him.

What does "to have out" mean in this context?

When you are "out to get someone" or you "have it out for someone" you are deliberately causing that person problems. - NikkiLR, Aug 30, 2013
We say "have it in" in England - it means she was not too happy with him (British understatement") - ian-hill, Aug 30, 2013
To have it out with someone" means to resolve an issue in England. - ian-hill, Aug 30, 2013
Ok. Thank you Ian. You are so helpful always. But this seems to be far from 'resolved' to me: one user kicked out with no reason (apparently). - 003492fc, Aug 30, 2013
:) You're welcome. - NikkiLR, Aug 30, 2013
