Courtesy When Answering
Lately I have noticed many answers telling people to attempt do their own homework and to use a dictionary for simple words - and I agree with this response.
But I have also noticed some answers directing people other sites via links for the answers to idiomatic phrases that aren´t listed on the SD site. Doesn´t it take more time to find a link to another site than to simply answer the question? In my opinion, these types of answers are going to cause serious learners to go elsewhere without returning.

I see your point but don't agree. I think that answering the question and providing the link to the source gives the answer more weight. Plus I can go see for myself if the answer is truly "on point".
I have found and used dozens of references in my quest to learn Spanish. Yet I keep returning here because this forum is unique. I know of two other sites with forums but neither has the level of activity that this one does.

I've been always polite. At least, it never was my intention to be rude with anyone. If the purpose of this Q&A feature is to become a shortcut for those who don't even bother to search by themselves a word, then I apologize because I have misunderstood the whole objective of this website.
Precisely!. It takes more time to find a link to another site, but that's my way to help people to help themselves by teaching them how to use this site's and other sites's learning tools. The easy way (for both questioner answerer) would be just answer the question.
But again, this is only my point of view and I apologize for misunderstanding the philosophy of SpanishDict. I am new here and it will not happen (to me) again.

In my opinion - due to the design of this site - most newbies would have no idea of the wealth of information there is here.
The reference section(s) is/are almost "hidden" and the search facility once in them leaves something to be desired.
I agree with that. It's a very good point.
This post is closed because this issue has been discussed many times before. The issue of members leaving and not returning is not going to change the "homework rule".
It is a new member's choice to stay or go. The serious ones will stay and begin to search for the information. The quick answer is not the policy of Spanishdict.com.
Also, this post is closed because Spanishdict.com is a learning site, not a site for debating and sharing opinions, especially about subjects that have been hashed out before.
If a current member sees this as an issue, they, too, have the choice of staying or leaving.
