sacrificar ( sah-kree-fee-kahr' )

(verb) to sacrifice

Sylyon1976 is the official corrector for the Spanish sentences. Please correct your posts according to her suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game to help with using a new vocabulary word! Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

Cuando decidí salir del mundo empresarial, entendí que tuve que sacrificar el dinero por la felicidad.

When I decided to leave the corporate world, I understood that I had to sacrifice money for happiness.

Para algunas personas el vivir toda la vida con la misma persona

es un sacrificio que va demasiado mucho . (Es un puente demasiado lejos.)

Suggested new sentence from sylyon ,-Para algunas personas, el vivir con la misma

persona para toda la vida es demasiado sacrificio.

For some people to live life with the same person is a sacrifice too far.

(It is a bridge too far.)

Aunque me sacrifique, jamás será lo suficiente para ella. Quise cambiar, pero fallé. Quise mejorar, pero fallé. Ella cree que todo lo que hago es un fracaso. ¿Sabes qué? Tal vez ella sea el problema.

Even if I sacrifice myself, It'll never be enough for her. I tried to change, but I failed. I tried to improve, but I failed. She thinks that everything I do is a failure. Well, maybe she's the problem.

Thanks sylyon for the corrections!

La palabra “sacrificar” viene de un verbo en Latín “sacrificere” que en sus dos raíces “sacri” (que viene de “sacer”) y “ficere” (que viene de “facere”) quiere decir “sagrado” y “hacer”, por lo tanto significa “hacer algo sagrado.”

The word “sacrificar” comes from a Latin verb “sacrificere” which in its two roots “sacri” (which comes from “sacer”) and “ficere” (which comes from “facere”) means “sacred” and “to make or do”, therefore “to make or do something sacred.”

Greater love has no man than this, to sacrifice his life for his friends.

El amor más grande que un hombre puede tener es amor tiene nadie que esto, para sacrificar su vida por sus amigos.

Si no puedo vender el último potro de mi cría, tendré que sacrificarlo. Ya no existen más soluciones agradables en este ambiente económico.

If I can't sell the last yearling that I have bred, I'll have to have him slaughtered. In this economic climate there are no '' 'nice '' solutions any more.
