1) I am a priest - soy un sacerdote (wrong)/ soy sacerdote (correct) 2) He is a professor - el es un profesor (worong) / el es profesor (correct) Why can't we use "un" before sacerdote/profesor?

Hi there. My understanding is that in English you have to use the article a/an before occupations. Well, in Spanish you don't.

I am a fireman - Yo soy bombero.

He is a consultant - Él es consultor.

You only need the article when the noun is determined.

"Él es un consultor muy caro" or "Yo soy un bombero excelente"
