la fruta or el fruta
Hi Elise,
Isn't "fruta" a feminine noun? In your second example, (yesterday's word of the day) its used as masculine "los frutos" sentence is - Hoy recogí los frutos de mi esfuerzos durante todo un año: medieron la promoción que esperaba en el trabajo. Puede explicar, por favor?

El fruto is the word for fruit in general even edible fruits (frutos comestibles) and results: fruits of one's labors.
La fruta is the word for any particular fruit. El durazno (melocotón) es una fruta. The peach is a fruit.
gracias! so, its la manzana (the apple). but not las frutas (the fruits)? and los frutos is correct for plural, is it so?
The word for any particular fruit (apple, peach, grape) can be feminine or masculine. That's a separate issue from the gender of the words "fruta" and "fruto" (both mean fruit). You should look up each word online in the following link and read the definitions and usage. The word "fruta" does not seem to be used in the plural, but I am not a native speaker so I cannot say that "los frutos is correct for plural."
