Suggest me some career options with Languages please!
Hi, I just wanted to know some career options with languages. I am a student in the first year of high school. I live in India and I love languages. Although, till now I've been learning languages randomly for fun but now I wish to enhance my linguistic skills and choose a profession related to languages. I learn french in my school and I really like it and I enjoy doing and my results are good too. My native language is Hindi and I am fluent in english. apart from these three, I learn spanish and `portuguese on the internet.I just wanted to choose a career that I could enjoy and I guess this is something I can do well with. Apart from all this, I also chose it because I am interested in literatures.
Thanks for reading!

Government. Every embassy is staffed with numerous people who speak the local language. The language skill is usually secondary to the actual job.
There are many careers where language skills enhance your job prospects. I have a friend who works in the pharmaceutical industry. He spent time as a child, living in Switzerland and is bilingual in French and German and fluent in Italian and is a native English speaker. As said above translating, interpreting and teaching are the obvious ones. Linguistics is a subject that can often be studied with other languages and if you are passionate about language is worth considering. Are you intending to gain greater knowledge of other Indian languages - your country is so vast it would give you other opportunities. Portuguese is a good choice as Brazil is an emerging economy. Given you are in your first year you need to talk to a language teacher and work out how gifted you are at languages. It is a joy to learn another language as it entails learning about another culture. However, if you are looking for a career in linguistics you need good advice. Arabic and Mandarin Chinese are increasingly popular but I assume very difficult to master. If you end up translating or interpreting other skills are useful. For example in the UK many people interpret in the Courts and they need to understand legal terms. Buena suerte
A small point your question is better framed as 'please suggest to me .. or advise me on'
Obvious professional options are Translator,Interpreter and of course teaching.
If you like languages so much why not look into getting a degree in Linguistics?
Good luck!
Hola, Adrianna! There are translation services around the globe that require people who are fluent in many languages. My sister-in-law owns this one in Fort Worth, Texas, USA: Teneo Linguistics Company. Here is the link to the list of services they offer and the type of people are are looking for, so you can keep this in mind when learning your languages. Buena suerte!!
