Here are some corrections to the grammar of your sentence just because I know that I am grateful whenever people help me out with my faulty grammar =] : In English we use "i.e." as a shortcut for "that is"; does Spanish have a similiar abbreviation? - AlyssaLTerry, Aug 15, 2013

I.E. Is an Latin acronym for "id est".

In English it is used for "in other words" or "that is"

I am not sure if i.e. is used in Spanish but it might be because it is not English. It would mean "esto es".

I agree. "O sea" or "es decir..." work well. I don't know of any abbreviations, though. - Goldie_Miel, Aug 16, 2013

I looked up on the web for Latin abbreviations in Spanish but only found Spanish abbreviations used in Spanish. As Andreknue said i.e. is Latin as are Cf., op.cit., e.g. and ibid. The abbreviation etc. is used but it's for the Spanish word etcétera which is really a Latin word. Here is a link to common Spanish abbreviations ("i.e." and the others I've listed aren't in there).
