Phrasal Verbs Challenge - 2 get

Phrasal Verbs Challenge - 2 get

Phrasal verbs form a major part of the English language.

They really do not exist in Spanish.

They cause learners of Spanish and English problems.

Los verbos compuestos forman una parte importante del idioma Inglés.

La verdad es que no existe en español.

Causan problemas los alumnos de español e Inglés.

A phrasal verb (multi-word verb) is a verb + a preposition (usually) that creates a meaning that is different from the original verb.

The problem is that out of context it can be impossible to know what they mean.

El problema es que fuera de contexto puede ser imposible saber lo que significan.

This challenge is to use the verb Get in a phrasal verb.

This is one of the most used and most confusing phrasal verbs to translate.

Examples:

We got the injured soldiers across the river.

Llevamos a los soldados heridos al otro lado del río.

She's been getting after me to take a vacation.

Me ha estado insistiendo para que me coja unas vacaciones.

desert island photo: Pusti otok desert-island.jpg

So I got away from it all. Así que me alejé de todo.

This is the previous challenge.

They're dogies Ray. "In the early West DOGIE was additionally spelled ‘doughie,’ ‘dogy,’ ‘doge,’ and ‘doge.’ Some have speculated that since starved calves have swollen bellies and were sometimes called a ‘dough-gut’ this may have given us ‘dogie.’ " - 0095ca4c, Aug 8, 2013
That's fascinating, Margherite. I knew it was dogie, but not the back story. :) - Findy, Aug 8, 2013
