Sufrir and padecer can be used interchangeably in this case. You might also consider other ways of expressing this idea. Such as Su pelea me hace mal. Su pelea me afecta. Su pelea me hace daño emocional. Su pelea me hace sufrir...
Note that sufrir and padecer are not always followed by de.

Si es casi similar, cuando uno padece algo del otro, quiere decir que también lo siente, o casi como si le hubiera pasado a él mismo.
