Another tip from someone at Firefox (if that is your browser) is to clear your cache. - 0095ca4c, Jul 29, 2013
Thanks. I will try both. - gringojrf, Jul 29, 2013

Hi gringo...no, I am not having any trouble but I took lagartijaverde's advice and installed the ad blocker on Firefox. Now I don't see any popups or ads.

I have adblocker so I don't get any ads but these pop-ups are driving me nuts. Maybe my settings are wrong. - gringojrf, Jul 29, 2013

In the past month or so, my McAfee started going crazy every time I opened a new SD page. The ads at the side would get blacked out for being "questionable." (I use Chrome.)

Then in the past few days all of these popups started showing up. Then today those double-underlined link popups started appearing in my and other peoples' posts, which annoyed me - because it looked like I was putting in the links in my posts. It was only the SD site that it did it with.

I got adblocker from Chrome (pay what you can or not at all if you can't). So far so good. Even the ads at the side are gone. I didn't mind those so much because I figure SD has to make its money somehow. I also cleared my cache (thanks, Margherite).

I just checked Photobucket and Facebook and the ads are all gone from there as well! I went to a lesson and the long ad at the beginning of the video lesson is also gone. I think just that is worth a few bucks.

In the time it took to write this, the blue underlined rollover popups have returned - maybe because they're links, not ads. The actual ads are still gone though.

Here is a way to remove the "text enhance" software from your computer (it's the computer, not the website, apparently). I'm going to go try it now and I'll let you know how it works.

Edit: Ok,, I followed the instructions and found an extension on my computer called "Webcake" and put it in the little garbage can. I don't see any of those nasty links so far. The instructions give you a list of possible extension names. Webcake wasn't on it. Watch this space.

I wrote the guy from "botcrawl" a note after removing the text enhancer (Webcake) from my computer:

Hey Sean! Thanks very much for this info. Several of us who use the SpanishDict.com website were having problems with those text enhancers. I've passed on the info from your site. It looks like I found the culprit on my own computer, called "Webcake," which wasn't on your list. The list was still helpful though, to give an idea of the types of names to look out for.

All the best to you in your quest to help us noobs conquer the baddies!

Note: If you've got one of these critters in your PC, it will likely go by a different name than Webcake. - Findy, Aug 14, 2013
