Was there enough batter to make hotcakes for everyone?

Was there enough batter to make hotcakes for everyone?

I made batter for hotcakes this morning and my girlfriend made them. I got to thinking about the most natural way to ask if there was enough batter. I came up with the following verbs as possibles: Dar, Hacer, Alcanzar, Rendir. Then I thought about batter: masa, batido, mezcla.

My attempt while sitting at the table eating: ¿Rindió la masa suficiente hotcakes para todo? It yielded the dough enough Pancakes for everyone? What is the mass yielded enough griddle cakes for all? Did enough hotcakes produce the mass for all?

Then I went to the translators forming sentences in both English and Spanish using various verb/noun combinations. The results were interesting to say the least.

Was there enough batter to make hotcakes for everyone? ¿Fue bateador suficiente para hacer churros para todos? ¿Había suficiente masa para hacer churros para todos? ¿Debía allí bastante masa para rebozar hacer hotcakes para cada uno?

Did the batter make enough hotcakes for everyone? ¿El bateador hizo suficiente churros para todos? ¿La masa suficiente rosquillas para todos? ¿Hizo la masa para rebozar(bateador) bastante hotcakes para cada uno?

¿El batido rindió suficiente hotcakes para todos? Do the milkshake yielded enough Pancakes for everyone? Does the smoothie yielded enough griddle cakes for all? Did the batter produce enough hotcakes for all?

¿La masa dió suficiente hotcakes para todos? The mass yield enough Pancakes for everyone? What does the earth gave enough griddle cakes for all? Did the mass give enough hotcakes for all?

So how would you ask this question?

What on earth are hotcakes? Some sort of aphrodisiac?

Churros sit rather too heavily to be aphrodisiacs..

pancakes = hotcakes in Mexico - gringojrf, Jul 21, 2013
Churros are nothing like pancakes/hotcakes. Churros are like Paco said: "sugary greasy" tubes, like a doughnut but straight about 1 foot long - and very tasty - 005faa61, Jul 21, 2013
They are horribly unehalthy Julián, I know churros but not '' hotcakes'' Crepes? - annierats, Jul 21, 2013
Crepes are thin hotcakes. - gringojrf, Jul 22, 2013

Hi Gringo;

Masa in Mexico ïs usually a "dough" where "batter" would be "mezcla"

So I woulod ask the question this way "¿ Había suficiente mezcla para hacer hotcakes para todos?

So do churros, Gring, so it's certain to be right, only don't eat it, especially not for breakfast.. - annierats, Jul 21, 2013

¿Tienes bastante mezcla para las arepas?

Do you have enough mix for the hotcakes.

This is how I would ask. In CR hotcakes / pancakes are arepas.

I agree that machine translators can create some weird sentences.

I would say ¿Hubo suficiente masa/batido para preparar hotcakes para todos?

And I´m sure you know, even though the translators don´t, that hotcakes are not churros.

Hi Julían, Hubo' Había can both work well enough i think' what say you. - pacofinkler, Jul 21, 2013
Hotcakes are not churros. Churros are better. - gringojrf, Jul 21, 2013
Paco, either one depending on context, but the feeling I get here is that the breakfast is now finished and no more batter so preterito provides that nuance - 005faa61, Jul 21, 2013
Yes Julian i agree based on the context - pacofinkler, Jul 21, 2013
