New neighbor is having a 15th birthday fiesta for his daughter. What is the proper term for this special celebration, and how may I best express my birthday wishes to her and her family?

It's called a Quinceañera - it's a sort of 'coming-of-age' celebration. If you're writing a card for her, 'Feliz Quinceañera' would be enough. You could also use some of these:

  • Congratulations on your coming of age/Felicitaciones por tu venida de edad.
  • Today, you have become a woman - congratulations/Hoy, se ha hecho una mujer - felicitaciones.
  • May all your hopes and dreams come true/Pueden todas tus esperanzas y sueños se realiza.

I have attended a few of these - in all of my experiences the young lady must face the Padre and answer religious questions as part of the ceremony. - pacofinkler, Jul 20, 2013
