raspar o raer

Question

Raspar or raer - which word would a painter use for scraping off paint? Thanks.

Unfortunately RAE it is of no help, to me anyway.

I have always known that raer = wear and in the case of beavers they raen a tree, which would be the only case in which it can indicate raspar = scrape

That I can think of.

According to RAE raer = raspar (scrape paint ie)

raspar
I verbo transitivo to scrape
(pintura) to scrape off

Raer didn't indicate anything about paint so my thought would be to use "raspar". I could be wrong though.

To take the paint off, to get rid of the previous coat:

Al quitar la anterior capa de pintura.. Al eliminar la pintura..
