I was wondering about the context of this quote so I did some research. The quote is taken from the his first reported speech given by 27 year old Abe, when he was a state legislator. Apparently, there was a court case concerning if the state should pay court costs involving the distribution of a certain bank's shares among it's wealthy shareholders. As he was against the state paying these costs, he said,

"These capitalists generally act harmoniously and in concert to fleece the people, and now that they have got into a quarrel with themselves, we are called upon to appropriate the people's money to settle the quarrel."

Here's a try

Very interesting exercise, Ray., Thanks!

Thank you Sanlee, Abbe could quite well have been talking about the debacle after the last financial crisis with the banks , which proves what a great man he was , that was brilliant Sandy, thank you , mi hermanita. - ray76, Jul 17, 2013

Con frecuencia en capital se conjura para desollar al pueblo

People with really good intentions for humanity like Lincoln tend to think ahead of their time, and also tend to wind up dead in a premature way.

I could only guess the man could foresee that the main principle of capitalism, the accumulation of capital, would only serve the misery and damnation of humanity if allowed to act with total laxity.

I've found a neat one ,

Los capitalistas suelen actuar en armonía y concierto, para ratear de la gente.

It carries a certain ambiguity though, a perfect politician's word grin

Thanks mate , the words of politicians are usually ambiguity personified . - ray76, Jul 17, 2013
Neat use of soler, I make the phrase more shocking in my translation, the fleecing part is very pungent, I kept that line - diagonx, Jul 17, 2013

Parece bastante difícil buscar a otra solución que funcione..

It does seem rather difficult to come up with a viable alternative..

Please note, I don't think Capitalism is the perfect solution.

No need for a solution if you asked me, a process of change would be better. - diagonx, Jul 17, 2013
Typo, "a viable" - ray76, Jul 17, 2013
Churchill said the "Capitalism is the worst form of Government , except for all the others . " Please note I am not an advocate of Churchill , but he was a man who could see the whole picture , and could see dangers where others could only see flowers. - ray76, Jul 17, 2013
