my question is that where should i use el/la and where should i use un/una??

The word 'the" is a definite article. Definite articles are used to indicate specific items.
Spanish has four definite articles(el, la, los, las)
El is used for masculine nouns. El chico>the boy.
La is used for feminine nouns. La chica>the girl.
Los is used for a plural masculine noun. Los chicos>the boys.
Las is used for a plural feminine noun. Las chicas>the girls.

Un is used for a masculine noun. Un gato> a male cat.
Una is used for a feminine noun. Una gata>a female cat.
