¿Cómo se dice "start" o "turn on"?

El otro día quería decir que no pude "start" mi carro, pero me quedé en blanco. No sabía la palabra o frase.

Y, empecé a pensar, y me di cuenta de que no sabía cómo expresar ideas similares como: "turning on / off" una computadora, "turning on / off" un teléfono móvil, o "starting / closing" una aplicación en la computadora.

También no sé como decir que un dispositivo, como un teléfono, o tableta, no va a funcionar porque no tiene mucha más energía. En Inglés decimos que el dispositivo "is running out of battery" o, de una manera más oscura, "is dying" o "is dead".

To start a car use "arrancar". To turn off the car use "apagar". To turn on a light or appliance use "prender". To turn off a light or appliance use "apagar". To turn on a faucet use "abrir". To turn off a faucet use "cerrar".

For the battery running out of power use "agotar"

Arrancar el coche is to start the car, this can be used fro machines so Arrancar el ordenador is possible for the computer. arrancar is pretty flexible as you'll see here.

Ponerese en marcha is another one that springs to mind and is pretty handy for discussing starting things up. Abrir is handy for domestic stuff as in Abre el grifo

apagar can be used as "turn off x in many cases.
