arbitrario ( ahr-bee-trah'-ree-oh )

adjective ( arbitrary )

RafaelNoiret is the official corrector for the Spanish sentences. Please correct your posts according to his suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game to help with using a new vocabulary word! Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

The criteria for winning the gold medal in figure skating seem arbitrary to me.

2. Tus gustos son completamente arbitrarios; un día prefieres a las rubias y al siguiente a las pelirrojas.

Your tastes are completely arbitrary; one day you prefer blondes and the next, redheads.

Perdí mi dientes en un hotel chino ,me dio vergüenza ,

pero pedir ayuda fue arbitrario.

Fue muy chistoso , y con un feliz final.

Are road barriers arbitrary or merely advisory?

Son barreras viales arbitraria o meramente consultivo?

¿Las barreras viales son arbitrarias, o simplemente ... ? I have to come back to this one, I can't think of an adjective for advisory > - RafaelNoiret, Jul 12, 2013
Uy, the best I've got is "o simplemente una sugerencia?".. and then you lose the parallel structure of the sentence. But sugerente and sugestivo have a different (inappropriate) meaning sometimes, and consultivo is what a counselor or consultant does. - RafaelNoiret, Jul 12, 2013
"Suggestive" means something else in English of course.:) - ian-hill, Jul 12, 2013

No sé a que hora se abre la palabra del día hoy en día, me parece arbitario y por eso ya es muy difícil dar las respuestas.

I don't know at what time teh Word of the day is put up these days , it seems arbitary, and because of that it's now very difficult to come up with answers.

Hasta ahora, no noté ninguna pauta en la palabra del día. Me parece la elección abritraria.

So far, I haven´t noticed any pattern to the word of the day. The choice seems arbitrary.

(note, that´s not a complaint, but rather just me trying to find a way to use the work)
