Aun asi, se empeño en no abrir los ojos por si, contra todo pronóstico, mientras dormía, aquel avión la llevaba de vuelta a casa con sus padres y su vida.
I thought that maybe because it says "la llevaba" that means that it is talking about a girl?
Is Jacq a girls name or a boys name?

I am going with the femenin here, La llevaba is the clue here for me " taking her". The other clue for me, is in Spanish I have never seen a masculine name liqe "jacq" but "jacquelin is not unusual.

Yes, it's a girl. Jacq can be a French last name or short for the Spanish first name Jacqueline, I believe. Not a common name around here.
