indudable ( eehn-doo-dah'-bleh )

adjective ( unquestionable )

Please join me in welcoming RafaelNoiret who has graciously offered his time and agreed to become our official corrector for la palabra del dia. Rafael is from Barcelona, Spain and speaks European Spanish fluently. He welcomes any additional suggestions from our very accomplished Latin American members as well. Please make corrections according to his suggestions.

Por favor, vamos a darle la bienvenida a RafaelNoiret, quien ha ofrecido generosamente su tiempo para ser nuestro corrector oficial de la palabra del día. Rafael es de Barcelona, España, y habla el español ibérico como nativo. También aceptará con agrado cualquier sugerencia de nuestros miembros destacados de Latinoamérica. Por favor, corregid vuestros textos según sus correcciones.

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game to help with using a new vocabulary word! Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

Examples:

1. Que Lionel Messi sea el mejor futbolista en el mundo es indudable.

It's unquestionable that Lionel Messi is the best soccer player in the world.

2. La joven cantante tiene un talento indudable, pero la industria musical es una muy difícil de conquistar.

The young singer has unquestionable talent, but the music industry is a tough one to conquer.

Thanks to everyone that has been helping to correct in the palabra del día. I know it is a time-consuming job and we all are very appreciative of your work and dedication to us and to SD!!

Thanks for volunteering, Rafael. That's good news. :) - GraceM, Jul 4, 2013
Absolutely. :). I need to figure out a better way to do it -- the comments section doesn't have enough room, then when I posted multiple comments they were in reverse order (see Jraider's post). I think I'll copy your guys' text and open a new answer. - RafaelNoiret, Jul 4, 2013

...se celebre... - diagonx, Jul 4, 2013
Eso es lo que se llama un reventón celebración. - rac1, Jul 4, 2013
I would say: Es de indudable importancia que se celebre el cuatro de julio con fuegos artificiales y sandías. I've changed la sandía to sandías in the plural to have more of a parallel text. If you want to be specific in that there is only one watermelon, - RafaelNoiret, Jul 4, 2013
(continuation) then you can say una sandía. Very nice translation, the subjunctive tense is used here (se celebre) because of the strength and strong opinion of the text. If you look, however, you've also used the subjunctive in the English version: - RafaelNoiret, Jul 4, 2013
[...]that the 4th of July BE celebrated[...] Be is actually a subjunctive conjugation. The indicative form is "is", so if you ever hear that English has no subjunctive, you're all set :) - RafaelNoiret, Jul 4, 2013
Hola brandit! Happy Fourth of July!!! - 0080b918, Jul 4, 2013

Great, just missing punctuation. We also don't put quotes around names. Lastly, you need to put "Es" before indudable. ¿Puede resolver este asesinato Holmes? ES Indudable, mi querido Watson. Can you solve this murder Holmes? Undoubtedly, my dear Watson. - RafaelNoiret, Jul 4, 2013
(continuación) because indudable is an adjective, whereas undoubtedly is an adverb (indudablemente). - RafaelNoiret, Jul 4, 2013
I have changed it a tad for you mate , but I made a mistake in the original , I meant to us " indubitably" which is traditionally used. - ray76, Jul 4, 2013
Thank you Rafael , for all your help , Sorry that i made such a dogs breakfast of it. - ray76, Jul 4, 2013
Does anyone watch the new American one with the Chinese 'Watson" ? - ray76, Jul 4, 2013

I love all of them rac, even the new Films. - ray76, Jul 4, 2013
Yes it takes place in New York , and it is surprisingly good , the Chinese girl is a stunner and is almost a romantic interest. - ray76, Jul 4, 2013
It was Miss Peacock in the kitchen. - katydew, Jul 4, 2013
No , not that one which takes place in London Katya, this is American with a British actor as Sherlock but an American Chinese as Dr Watson , it is quite intriguing my dear Katya , indibitably so/ - ray76, Jul 4, 2013
"indubitably so " - ray76, Jul 4, 2013

Es indudable que a la mayoría de los políticos se les olvida que están para servir a los ciudadanos y no a ellos mismos.

It is unquestionable that the majority of the politicians forget that their job is to serve the citizens not themselves.enter image description here

- RafaelNoiret, Jul 4, 2013

I like your translation and slight variation. The only thing I'm thinking is that it could sound better to put "siempre" before "y ha sido", but if you don't want to say "has always been" then omit it. Great job. - RafaelNoiret, Jul 4, 2013

Digan lo que digan los madrileños, el Barça es el único equipo de fútbol que tiene importancia.

No matter what people from Madrid say, Barça is the only football team that matters.

I'd better duck. Hopefully everyone in Madrid is already sleeping. smile

Si tu piensas que su tu opinión sobre cualquier teme es indudable, entonces es posible que tu estan estés pensando con la mente cerrada.

¡Muy bien dicho! - rac1, Jul 4, 2013
Una mente abierta es una calle de doble sentido. - EugenioCosta, Jul 4, 2013
(continuation) in this context. When we say "es posible que", this is always followed by the subjunctive tense. For estar, is estés and not estás. We say la mente cerrada, because cerrado is masculine and mente is feminine, so the gender agreement is off. - RafaelNoiret, Jul 4, 2013
(continuation two) Lastly, I've omitted the subject pronouns (tú), because in Spanish we already know you are talking about "tú" due to the conjugation that you use, and it sounds very redundant to include them in most cases. Great work. - RafaelNoiret, Jul 4, 2013
My corrections: Si piensas que tu opinión sobre cualquier tema es indudable, es posible que estés pensando con la mente cerrada. Cualquier instead of calquier; tema instead of teme; I've omitted entonces, not that it's wrong, it just sounds a bit better - RafaelNoiret, Jul 4, 2013

Diría que es indudable que la amapola es la flor más hermosa, pero podría cambiar de opinión la próxima vez que vea unas flores.
