New Game - Find a word SP _ _ /_

The idea is to find an English word of 4 or 5 letters that starts with SP

SP_ _ /_

There are very few in Spanish.

And then write a short sentence in English and Spanish using that word.

Example:

These beautiful forests cover a broad span of latitudes.

Estos bosques hermosos se extienden sobre numerosas latitudes.

Eso es todo, fácil ¿no?

spool - carrete

Fishing poles use a spool to aid in reeling the fishing line back in.

Cañas de pescar, se usan un carrete para enrollar la línea de pescar.

Con correcciones: Las cañas de pescar usan un carrete para enrollar el hilo de pescar.

¡Muchísimas gracias por todas las correcciones!

the first phrase is in the present, the second in the past....or am I missing something. - Aranjuez12, Jul 2, 2013
@Aranjuez... You're right. It should be changed to either le dio un azote or gives the boy a spank. - francobollo, Jul 2, 2013
Claro que se dirá diferente en cada región, pero en la mía decimos 'dar unas azotes en el trasero'. If you're talking about spankings that don't involve children, however, the word changes xD. - RafaelNoiret, Jul 2, 2013
Katy and Aran, in English it is "to give a spanking", not "spank" (verb). - RafaelNoiret, Jul 2, 2013
Unless this is a British English structure in which case I apologize. - RafaelNoiret, Jul 2, 2013
@RafaelNoiret...when I was a child in England, parents 'gave a good hiding'. I had never heard of 'a spanking' until I learned some North American English. - 0095ca4c, Jul 2, 2013
I see I've caused a stir with my ever confused Spanish verb usage and with my own English phrasing. ha. I leave the English as it stands because it is said where I grew up in this way. However, giving someone a spanking is also used. - katydew, Jul 2, 2013
You what they say, spare the rod spoil the child - pmikan-pam, Jul 2, 2013
Yo diría "nalgada" en lugar de "azote". "Ella le dió una nalgada al niño". - 00e46f15, Jul 2, 2013

Spud- Patata

Hay es nada lo que es mejor que patatas asadas.

There is nothing that is better than roast potatoes.

Among other definitions, a spud is a sharp, narrow spade used to dig up large-rooted plants. Around the mid-19th century—the first documented reference occurs in 1845 in New Zealand—this implement of destruction began lending its name to one of the things it was often used to dig up: potatoes. Eventually, the nickname caught on throughout the English-speaking world.

So "Spud Murphy " was wrong then
