What is the Difference between "blame" and "fault"?

I blame you because it is your fault.
I think fault is "culpa" and blame is "poner culpa".
"Es mi culpa" - It is my fault. or I take the blame. I put the blame /culpa on myself.
"Es tu culpa" - It is your fault. or I blame you. I put the blame/culpa no you.

Yes, this is a bit difficult to explain. Just because you blame someone (convince yourself to believe that they are at fault) doesn't mean that they are actually at fault, and just because someone is actually at fault, doesn't mean that they will be blamed. Does that make sense?

I'll add that "fault" is used only as a noun (It's my fault) whereas "blame" can be used as a verb (I blame you) or as a noun (I take the blame). Their meaning is quite similar but:
fault has to do with the act of making a mistake
blame has to do with who takes the responsibility for a mistake, who should have done something to prevent a mistake and didn't
The person who made the mistake might be different from the person who will be held responsible for the mistake that occurred. I blame you because it was your fault = you made a mistake and you're responsible for it. I blame you even if it wasn't your fault = someone else made a mistake but I hold you responsible for it.
