What does "lanzar al agua" mean?

Question

What does "lanzar al agua" mean? I think it means to jump into the deep end as a phrase but I cannot find it anywhere!

I think:

Lanzarse al agua ==to dive in, to throw oneself into the water. Me lanzé al agua -- I dived in.

Lanzar al agua= to throw something in ( the something wouldhave to be specified) Lancó una piedra al toro (he threw a stone at the bull )

"Lanzar al agua" = throw something to the water/sea/others Significa lanzar alguna cosa hacia el agua, No significa saltar hacia el agua (not means jumping to the water)

Lanzar al agua - I agree with 00af10c5.

Lanzarse al agua - This is an idiom, the same as in English "to take the plunge" and "to jump in with both feet." To do something completely without knowing what the outcome will be / to do something that may have risk.

"To throw somebody to the wáter" is to tell a secret that you promise don't tell to anybody, or "To throw somebody to the wáter" is that somebody throws you because you don't like to swim or you don't knohow to do it, and for it this person or people do it.

I am not sure if in Colombia "echar/echarse al agua" means what Natali described, which is a bit different from "lanzar/lanzarse al agua" which Julian described.

Julian has explained the meaning of the idiom: lanzarse al agua = to jump/dive in with both feet (not literally!)

Regarding the literal meaning to dive in, I am aware of two particular, and different verbs used to mean: to dive into water (from a height!) There are often many ways to say the same thing and Julian has given you one common way to say it.

1.Zambullirse = to dive (into water) : Se zambulló al agua. He dived into the water.

and

2 Tirarse = to dive (into water) : Se tiró al agua. = She dived into the water

I think we need something like "lanzarse al agua" to say dive into the water. "Lanzar alquien al agua" might be a more complete expression with alguien... meaning to throw something into the water.
