...I'm curious about the deep voice of the man who says most of the flash cards. Is that one of our users here?

(I tried to find another related question, but couldn't find one. I can't be the first person to have asked this!)

I honestly think that you are referring to the voice that I believe to be computer generated.

There are several voices that are taped (including one male, but he does not show up that often) and anything that does not have something taped uses this computer voice. It is capable of attempting to say just about anything with Spanish pronunciation rules, including English words put in the wrong category, and gross misspellings (ie non existent words). I think the taped ones are tolerant of missed accents and tildes, but still pronounce them correctly; if not accented correctly the computer voice will pronounce the word incorrectly accented.

If there is a taped word, you know it is a real word in Spanish, if it is the computer voice you are not so sure, although some quite common words do not seem to bring up tapes, and some less common words do have a tape. More than one word, sentences, weird symbols, and even the inclusion of an article makes it default to the computer voice; tapes only exist for single words.

This at least is what I surmise from what I have heard doing flashcards. (It is not based on any real knowledge, just guesses).

Bizarre. That voice sounds so smooth - not stunted like regular computer voices. The other voices (usually female) sound like computer voices. - Findy, Jun 21, 2013
Although sometimes with the female voices ( and the male recorded voice) you can hear echoes, and a pause before they speak, and a cutout too early- never happens with the computer. - bosquederoble, Jun 21, 2013

I heard from Martha about this, she says she doesn´t know the man´s name and it is a purchased audio file for Spanisdict.com´s use. I hope this helps!
