Welcome to the forum. Although you are located in Mexico it would be a jumping to a conclusion to assume you are fluent in Spanish. It would be helpful if your profile provided that information.

Although suelo can mean floor, particularly ground floor, probably more often it means ground. Piso is generally used for floor whether in reference to the flooring material or a particular floor of a building.

la planta baja is often used to mean the ground floor - FELIZ77, Jun 14, 2013

I remember this because "suelo" also means "soil", and that's what is in the ground (and the floor of many homes)

Hello, raisimr

The word piso in Spanish can mean floor and refers to the particular level /storey of a block of flats (or of an apartment if you are living in USA) For example: She is living on the seventh floor = Vive en el séptimo piso.

(un) piso can also mean (an) apartment or flat

suelo, (as a noun) in contrast, refers to the ground on which the house or flat is built although it can also be used to mean the floor inside a building eg: Don't go in......the floor's wet = No entres ...que está el suelo mojado

You need to be careful not to confuse this word with the verb soler (to be accustomed/to usually do something ) which is spelt exactly the same in the first person singular suelo =I usually etc..

eg; Suelo levantarme a las siete de la mañana = I usually get up at seven o'clock (7am) in the morning..

The important thing is to look at the context which is the key to successfully understanding what is being expressed in any language, whether in a spoken or written form.

I hope this will help you smile

Y en Mexico, Piso can also refer to the material that covers the floor, such as piso de madera. - Rey55, Jun 15, 2013
