Spanish Letter to a Friend

How would I say, "I am sorry that I have not written to you in a long time" ?
Would it be something like, "Lo siento que yo no haya escrito por mucho tiempo" ? Sorry, I'm a beginner to learning spanish. I would appreciate any help.
I know that I am missing the "to you" in my attempt. Also, the "in a long time" i think is incorrect as well.
