We have a responsibility to stand up for ourselves against unjust laws. Just because legislation passes a law does not make it right. We are not dogs meant to lay down and obey we are people who are meant to have a voice.

You are on notice sir , your words will be taken down and used against you , next you will be saying that we live in a free society , a democracy no less ,. Oh that what you say were still a truism , sadly i fear that those days are long past. - ray76, Jun 13, 2013
But I do like the cut of your Jib, keep it up mate and may the force be with us. - ray76, Jun 13, 2013
We do have that responsibility. I just think than even in societies such as ours, in the US, radical change is no longer achieved by civil disobedience. - francobollo, Jun 13, 2013
Radical change is not achieved full stop Franco. It is creaping "this" creaping "that" sneaking up on us - like a thief in teh night.. - ian-hill, Jun 13, 2013
Hi Chella! 'They' are probably looking you up right now lol Cheers! - 0095ca4c, Jun 13, 2013
sorry that I missed out on all this good conversation today. my internet was down the whole day after my last post. I do agree with francobollo that change is not achieved this way. There is always a way to achieve though. - chellapadua, Jun 14, 2013
@ Margherite, no surprise since there are no privacy laws obviously. Probally why my internet was out all day :) - chellapadua, Jun 14, 2013
@ian-hill, correct, creeping that has been going on for too long and at who's expense? I often wonder what the founding fathers would think about society today. Also, what would they change if any? - chellapadua, Jun 14, 2013

Our government has forgotten its place. It is not their responsibility to look out for my well-being and to monitor my speech. It’s not their right to assert an agenda. We cannot afford to have our First Amendment rights taken away from us.

Civil disobedience - the act of banging ones head against a brick wall. We do it because it feels so good when we stop.

¿Me explico? - Jubilado, Jun 13, 2013
- 0095ca4c, Jun 14, 2013
I don't disagree with your point Ian. The point I was making is that it is very difficult to make headway when you are up against an immovable object. That is not to say it can't be done. - 0095ca4c, Jun 14, 2013
I agree Ian-hill! The problem is not enough people use their voice their vote or their right. People are neglecting their own responsibilities. - chellapadua, Jun 14, 2013
- Jubilado, Jun 14, 2013

It is an interesting phrasing "Civil disobedience is the duty of all citizens."

In my opinion maintaining justice in civil law in the duty of all citizens. Civil disobedience should not become a way of life for anyone. Gandhi did not dedicate his life to civil disobedience he dedicated his life to the liberation on his people from colonial subjugation.

There is a perpetuation of adolescent rebellion in modern society. This is neither a duty or honor. Calling rebellious behavior civil disobedience is a disservice to idealism and morality.

I disagree Jubildo - without civil disobedience those in power would become dictators because, as you know, power corrupts. - ian-hill, Jun 13, 2013
What we call democracy is not working to the advantage of the people anymore - it has been hi-jacked. - ian-hill, Jun 13, 2013
And yet you do not live in chaos. And justice still exists. You asked if one agrees, no? In some ways I do. - Jubilado, Jun 13, 2013
Hello Jubilado...I don't like to spoil your day, but you have just been disobedient by not posting in both languages :-) I'm sorry dear :-) - 0095ca4c, Jun 13, 2013
He is one of life's natural rebels apparently. :) - ian-hill, Jun 13, 2013
I disagree Jubilido. Justice doesn't exist for everyone. - Ranman, Jun 13, 2013
imo, the latest "perpetuation of adolescent rebellion" is a phenomenon that began with the idea that 'one is entitled to it' (great job, big house) and is fueled by politicians looking for votes. 'I'll give you what you want' will always get a vote.. - 0095ca4c, Jun 14, 2013

Civil disobedience. What a very well thought out concept to make sheeple think they're "free" to oppose what is imposed on them!

People are not as free today as they were before to think (r)evolution needs a complete change of mentality, and the shedding of the old ways, e.g. "civil disobedience".

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.....that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it....

This is in the second paragraph of our Declaration of Independence.
