" doquiera " means " wherever " ?

" doquiera " means " wherever " ?

  1. Is " doquiera " just a shortened form of " dondequiera " and if so, is this commonly used ?

  2. "doquiera que vaya " and " doquiera que estoy " I translate as " wherever you go " and wherever I am ". Is this correct ?

  3. I am assuming that these sentences consist of " donde + que + querer " in 1st.or 3rd person singular subjunctive tense. Litteraly " where you wish (that) you are going " and " where I wish (that) I am ".

These phrases appeared in an answer from annie 5th.of May to " palabra inglesa del día " Necessity

Could some kind person please confirm or correct my thouhts on this ?

Here's a nice link for you Britisk:

doquiera

One little trick I do to get a greater meaning of a word, is to type it into your online search in images or web. I'm a visual learner so I usually try the images first. The captions of the pictures will give you a good idea of how this word is used in various sentences and the image lets you see all the different meanings of a word in its various usages.

And don't confuse it with "doquier"

EDIT:

Hay gente por doquier

Doquiera que vayas encontrarás gente con la que puedas hablar.

This last I have never used. Instead I use Adonde quiera que vayas...

Good point! Everywhere is not wherever. - katydew, Jun 7, 2013
Chileno, if you have a minute, could you write 2 short sentences with both for context? - katydew, Jun 7, 2013
Thank you both, and thanks Katy for the link and advice. Re. my assumption on the subjunctive. Is this correct? If so, that is why I used "wherever " instead of " everywhere". " wherever, whatever and whenever " seem to imply more of a wish than a stateme - britisk, Jun 7, 2013
Here's my attempt: " Hay gente doquier " and " doquieras que desees comer " as " there's people everywhere " and " wherever you wish to eat " Cheers both ! - britisk, Jun 7, 2013
I meant" doquiera que desees " Sorry - britisk, Jun 7, 2013
