Dismiss someones argument.

Dismiss someones argument.

Hi all,

I¨m trying to figure out the best way to say ¨dismiss someones argument¨.

I mean it in the sense of to reject or diminish their position or opinion.

Note, I´m not trying to figure out how to reject someones argument, just trying to figure out how one refers to that act wink

Verbs that look like candidates include ¨descartar¨ and ¨rechazar¨ and ¨rebatir¨

Nouns I thought of include ¨argumento¨, razonamiento, and ¨opinión¨

I could probably use about any combination and have it be understood, but I was hoping maybe someone could point me to a ¨frasa hecha¨ or at least some fairly standard way to say this, even if it doesn´t end up involving any of my wording above.

Thanks! Roger

How about "hacer caso omiso al argumento -o- la opinión de alguien?" [Gracias, aileribel] enter image description here

Aquí en España podrías decir:

Le rebatí todos sus argumentos.

Le desmonté todos sus argumentos.

Refutar

Discutí sus argumentos

You might say Aplastar la argumenta de otra persona, or you could replace aplastar by castigar.

I think you have a Memrise, right?

Here is a cool course on Spanish argument vocab: Argument Vocab.

Hope this helps!

Más o menos todas las sugerencias han estado bien.

Los único que contestaron a la segunda parte (diminish) fueron cristalino y Andreknue.

smile

To me in this case, rechazar = dissmiss and aminorar = lessen/diminish

They trivialized my argument , like I was some kind of an idiot. Trivializaron mi argumento, como era una especie de idiota.
