In English Ocean was originally "Ocean sea", just like "la mar océana", until about the middle of the Seventh Century.

Océano is correct but I hear many use "mar" sea for ocean.
Ejemplo: Esto es el Océano Pacífico. ¿Quiere vamos a nadar en el mar?
