Refresco(s) and Food

I´ve been reading up on the word "refresco". It´s my understanding that this word has nothing to do with food and only applies to beverages. Is that right?

Background: My understanding of "refreshments" includes snacks/finger foods, along with beverages. Therefore, I plan, if I´m right about it not pertaining to food, to ignore the "refreshment" translation for this word wherever I see it (and remember it as "soft drink" or "soda" instead).

I understand it to be soda/carbonated beverage. I think you are right. Perhaps a native speaker will know.

It doesn´t have to be carbonated, have caffine, or have high fructose corn syrup to be "refresco". In Mexico there many "chescos" without all this garbage - 005faa61, May 22, 2013

In CR I use "refrescos" and "frescos" for drinks and for snack foods I use "chatarra" junk food and "bocas" and "bocillas" appetizers and the like.
