Think of ni as neither nor or either or in English. Examples:

No fuimos ni a Valencia ni a Madrid.

We did not go [either] to Valencia or Madrid

We went neither to Valencia nor Madrid.

I don't like [either] the green shirt or the blue one.

I like neither the green shirt nor the blue one.

'Ni" es "nor" or "Not even" in English.

"Jeeze! I didn't even want to answer the bull---- he was asking about. He was trying to get information about my workplace, and I suspect he was from the competition."
