codigo and clave

If clave means code and key. What distinguishes this word from the word código (code) and llave (key)?

Like jlwiso said. But I have heard "códico" used for "clave" at times but never the other way around.

Código can be building code, legal code, zip code. Clave is code like a password. Maybe a native speaker can give you a better answer.
