I need some advice
Hello everyone!
I'm a newbie (registered months ago but started to participate here just this week.) I want to ask you guys on how you improve your Spanish. So far, what I only do is to keep reading here to learn new words, rules, etc.

When I first began learning Spanish, I basically was just trying to grasp the grammar. Once learned some grammar I was able to begin picking up other concepts easier. Because of this I could focus more on learning vocab. If you know grammar, but no vocab, the grammar is useless and vice versa. If you know vocab but no grammar, you can't form a sentence.
Just find ways to practice. Repetition and consistency in learning is important as well I think. Sometimes I will just say a word over and over or to remember it. Make flash cards. Watch movies, read articles in Spanish, and try to find someone to practice with. As for consistency, Just make sure there aren't large gaps in your learning or you will forget stuff! I want to be a Spanish teacher and still have a lot to learn. I am always wanting a way to practice or help people, so if you need help feel free to message me!

Best way: take classes at a college and really put some effort into it. Also start to immerse yourself in Spanish as much as possible: read Spanish children's books (available at the library), listen to Span radio on the internet, read Span magazines, watch Telemundo,etc. It really takes time and dedication, pero vale la pena!
I'll echo the every-day part. Do that, and you'll make good progress. Also, don't just read and listen, but make sure you're actively trying to form sentences, even if only simple ones initially. You'll learn better and faster that way. The videos and tutorials and this forum here on SpanishDict are all great resources.

One good way to start is by taking the video course on this site. It will provide a solid basis for your studies, and is free. As has been said, you need to commit to spending time every day to Spanish - at least an hour. There are lots of CD courses you can listen to in your car, as well as podcasts from various sites that you can listen to with an ipad or iphone. Be flexible, and you will be suprised at how fast you can learn!
