Is there a rule for using des on a verb

When you see the prefix "des", it typically implies the opposite of it's associated verb.

Hacer - To do something. Deshacer - To un-do something

Cansar - To get tired. Descansar - to get un-tired, ie. to rest.

Cubrir - to cover. Descubrir - To uncover.

Ocuparse - To be busy. Desocuparse - To not be busy

There are numerous verbs like that, but there is no rule. At least not that I've ever heard of.
