Stand-by Flight

I want to say "I'm going to try and fly stand-by". I can't seem to find a good translation for this.
I've seen volar stand-by, but that's clearly Spanglish and more importantly, my amigo didn't understand it. What would be a genuine translation to Spanish for this for stand-by?
