Ser vs. Ir

I saw a Yahoo! commenter say: "Mon Azo: Puede ser gente de caca!" This translates to "Mon Azo: Maybe people poop!"
Im interested in this comment only because I think he used "ser" wrongly. Im not fluent in Spanish (not even 2% fluent), but shouldn't he have used "ir" and should that be conjugated? Is it okay to leave "ser" and "ir" as is in a sentence?
If he used "ir: Puede ir gente de caca! -> People can go poop!
And yes, I am seriously asking. I do not wish to waste people's time.

Puede ser = it could be/ it can be
And the rest? Well, let's just say he's not fond of them.

Katy's right, this isn't about people 'going poop' as you say - rather it's a disparaging comment about their character.
