Reading a book as a group- (Decisions?)

Hey Y'all!!

There seems to be quite a lot of interest in reading a book as a group. I have not heard anything from Broca23, and I am really excited about reading a book/collection of short stories/or poems collectively with any SD memeber(s) that is/are interested. I will soon post the a list of short stories/poems/books that we could vote on. That way we will be able to come up with an plan. Chileno also had a FANTASTIC idea when he said we can put our time zone. So I will be working on links throughout the day and you can put your suggestions on here. After I have posted the list, perhaps you would like to take a vote.(not for me but for a book that YOU might like to read.) Go for it!!! Chileno already said that he possibly could take care of Skype. Since I do not have a webcam. So here goes nothing...

Hi everyone!

I love reading & would be Very interested in being a member of a SD Spanish-language book club! I recently finished an uplifting book entitled "Comience a disfrutar su vida: supere las luchas de todos los días" by Marilyn Hickey. It's not a "short" story, but it is an easy read!

Also, I enjoy the books by Dra. Isabel (I learned of her from my friend & fellow SD member, Mariana!). The 1st book I read by this awesome author (Dra. Isabel Gómez-Bassols) is entitled "Los 7 pasos para el exito en la vida". Loved it & have the CDs to go with it! It was So good, that I'm now reading another by her entitled "Los 7 pasos para ser más feliz"! Again, not really "short", but an easy read! She's also on the radio, weekdays for 2hrs, & has lots of free iTunes downloads of her radio shows!

For the Beginner-beginners, I like the short & easy books by R.L. Stine. The series is entitled "Escalofríos" such as "¡No bajes al sótano!", "¡Volvámonos invisibles!" and "¡Sonríe y muérete!". Short & easy sentences, but hits all the tenses & moods that we Spanish-learners study...and they're fun & funny! Lots of great vocabulary, too!

My apologies for 'carrying on' so! I just got really excited when I read this Post! jejeje I sure hope the plans for a SD book club pans out. Please let me know if I can help in any way!

Well if no one else adds anything, I'm interested in what yo_la_tengo suggested, La tortuga gigante.

If we have trouble coming up with more ideas I might just start looking at Parallel Text, Dual-Language Books, Side by Side Bilingual Books, whatever you want to call them and googling titles until I find something available online. Here's my list of those types of books, along with other types of books specifically for learners.

It's great that so many beginners want to get involve! Maybe we should have 2 things per week, 1 that would be good for the intermediate/advanced folks and then something simple for the "Spanish Noobs" =P

I'm not sure what would be best for beginners but I know that question has been asked here before so if you do a search you'll probably find something, like this, for example. Children's books are usually recommend and here are some sites I've seen suggested.

Like Broca said and a couple others suggestexd we could start with the first cuenta, and everyone seems to like the cuentas de la Salva. You can download it for free, in a pdf format. What do ya'll think of the first one La tortuga gigante.

This one sounds and looks great for what we are doing. This is the one that I liked the most too. We can go ahead and start but I just wanted to tell those that were interested so that they could join.
