Junto -- at the same time. The rivers were excavated at the same time the Royal Palace was built
Juntos.. would be together or both...... Both rivers were excavated together with the construction of the Royal Palace
You take your pick depending on what meaning yo want to convey.

No. You can say María se sentó junto a Juan. OR María y juan se sentaron juntos. The first one is an adverb of place (invariable) the second case is an adjective (which needs to agree in number and gender) - francobollo, Apr 27, 2013
