I'm just curious how these rep points work. Am I posting too much?

I'm just curious how this is calculated. I can understand the limit on how many times you can vote up an answer and earn points (seems like 3 a day?). On the other hand, sometimes I earn 10 rep for being voted up on an answer, and other times (these are all just today)....

Keep in mind, Findy, that you can never, ever vote too much! Your vote ups are an expression of your appreciation for the member posts.

In a 24 hour period you gain up to 200 reputation points. When it says "you earned 0 rep for being voted up", this means the 24 hour total is at 200; when it says "you earned 2 rep for being voted up", it means you were at 198 in the 24 hour period so you can earn the 2.

I just checked out your reputation Findy Reputation and I realized that you have 180 in the last 24 hrs , so now when I vote for you and I did , you can gain the 10 reputation points . The limit is 200 per day .

On your profile page, to the right of your avatar, there is a little box that says, reputations, badges and points. Click on that to understand more about this learning incentive.

Yes, a virtual pat on the back for you and for others is a great way to explain it. If I ask a question on the forum and someone takes the time to answer, I usually vote for them unless I can tell they were just writing any old thing. If it has validity I always vote so they can see that I read it, appreciated their input and valued it.

Flings self on floor and has tantrum. Oh... wait a minute... I am (slightly) over 12! lol Thanks, everyone. I used to be a moderator & GM on a writing site a few years back, so I'm really self-conscious of coming across as a spammer.

I think the points & badges system is a great way of figuring out if you're actually doing things right, as well as encouraging people to continue to mix in with others.

¡Ahora, un día espero ser capaz de escribir todo esto en español sin necesidad tener de usar el instrumento de traducción! Now, one day I hope to be able to write all that in Spanish without having to use the translation tool!

It is your choice. Enjoy! I look at this site as a learning tool and I also enjoy the electronic interaction with some interesting and nice people. I don't worry much about the points. I probably will never reach lofty levels.

I don't think anyone here worries about points unless you are under 12 years old - readytodictate, Apr 27, 2013
