Su garganta estuvo seca, así que bebió un poco de agua. - EL_MAG0, Jul 31, 2013
Sed (a noun) uses tener (to have). Seco (dry) is an adjective, if you want to use a verb with it you use ser or estar depending if you want to talk about a characteristic or a state. In your sentence his dry throat is a state, so you use estar. - EL_MAG0, Jul 31, 2013
