What encourages you to learn Spanish?
Hey guys! Do you have an interesting reason why do you want to learn Spanish? Or you do it just randomly? And from where did you make your mind to learn it?
I have two reasons for it, one that's my hobby and second I have many pen friends from Mexico I want to meet, and the Facebook basically gave me the inspiration to learn that :D
What about you? Share your thoughts if you like.
I will be connecting regularly to know your thoughts and add mine.
And at last, sorry if you find it silly :|
Thanks!

I live and work in Spanish speaking countries and need it for survival. But, I have to admit, I just love learning languages.
I used to hate learning Spanish it was just really hard for me. Now that I am doing all of my schoolwork online I find that it is easier and quite fun. I want to perhaps be fluent so that when I am out of school it can be something that will help me do whatever kind of job I want. I love the Spanish culture and language. SD has been very helpful in my learning progress.
Voy a sacar una licenciatura en español.
Interesting question.
For me, it´s primarily that I like learning other languages. It´s a mental puzzle that keeps my brain constantly busy. I started out listening to tapes to make use of time otherwise wasted while driving. I liked it well enough that I ended up enrolling in formal college classes the last 3 semesters too.
It started out just for fun, but it´s led to some extra work, a lot of new friends, and being able to read the Spanish press (the most prolific) on my vocation and avocation, Motorcycle Racing.
Todavía tengo un camino largo por delante, pero el viaje es interesante y vale de pena.
Moving recently back to the Southwest USA after 21 years of living in Scotland, I found myself once again surrounded by Hispanic people who I would like to talk with. I've gotten nothing but smiles when I attempt to communicate in my newly found (albeit halting) Spanish. The good thing is most of them can speak at least some English so we can help each other.
I have always admired people who could speak more than one language and would like to speak fluently one day - at the rate I'm going it'll be a long way off! Also, I feel the job opportunities are greater if you can speak Spanish as well as English.
I decided to learn Spanish for the pure sake of learning. I've always wanted to learn another language since I was little. It always seemed to me that everyone who knew more than one language was very intelligent.
Siempre he querido aprender un otro idioma.

I love languages in general, and the thrill of speaking to someone in their native language and being able to understand what they say to you is immense. I have had so much fun learning Spanish. It really is a joy!
My motivation is derived from the need to meet more people in the Spanish market and hence widen my marketability. Furthermore back in the West Indies I did Spanish, French and Latin. Always loved languages. My encouragement therefore, comes from the need to broaden my business market and the love of the Spanish language.
A stubborn personality.
I work as a paramedic in San Francisco. It is estimated that 1/3 of the city population is Spanish-speaking. I used to rely on my work partner who is half Cuban when we have Spanish speaking patients. One day, he got reassigned.
I gathered up the courage to get some different books and audio courses. In a few weeks, I started trying it on my Spanish-speaking patients. I figured, what is the worst that can happen? This person needs my help and I need to communicate with him/her. The worst is it doesn't work. We also work in an enclosed environment of the ambulance so I am not as afraid of other bystanders making fun of me. That helped.
I soon discovered the beauty of the language because of its Latin root and fell in love with it. In time, patients started to understand me more and more. Now I have been learning Spanish for 3 years. I am no expert but I am fairly comfortable starting a conversation in Spanish. I can't wait to visit Mexico so I can be immersed in it. This site is a great refresher as well! Now I am so encouraged I started learning my forth language, German.
We have a lot of Spanish speakers in our state. Some of them do not speak English. I live in Grand Junction which is next to Palisade. Palisade is known for its wine. Most of the workers there are from Mexico. Some of them are seasonal and they don't want to learn English. I used to only know a few words in Spanish. I have worked at many stores. It is hard when the customer is uncomfortable around you because of a language barrier. I learned the basic vocabulary for running a transaction. I would ask my other customers to help me with the words. I also grew up in Houston as I said on a previous post. There were people from all over the world there. We weren't very far from Mexico. That is when my fascination with Spanish began.
Well, i'm half puerto rican but i grew up with my white mom in the white suburbs. As i have gotten older and moved to a sort of ghetto place compared to my old town, i met alot of hispanics and they can ALL speak, or understand it. Also when i go and see family, i can't talk to them because there english is horrible. Also, it looks good for jobs, and i really want to go to some south american countries for vacations.
Well the truth is that always deep down I've had some type of predisposition or something like that when it comes to Spanish, but it wasn't until I got to the end of my first year in the class (two years ago) that I really fell in love with the language. After that I started studying it a ton, but back then I didn't know why I loved it so much. But thanks to God, He showed me that He had a plan for my Spanish, so that I could use it to serve Him by helping others. Now Spanish is a passion and joy of mine and I can't stop thanking Jesus Christ for all He's done through this gift He's given me.
