Fill in the blanks using the preterite or imperfect based on the drawings.

1) Cuando llegué a casa anoche, las niñas estuvieron durmieron AND estaban durmiendo

2) Cada verano, las chicas tomaron el sol AND toman el sol

The words in italics are my answers. The words in bold are the part of my answer that are wrong. I really have no idea what to put since Ive tried imperfect and preterite words!! Much help will be appreciated!!

If i understand correctly you should only choose one option, either the pret or imp:

In both cases I would choose the imp.

1.Estaban durmiendo. Were sleeping.

The imperfect here shows the ongoing nature of the action at the time you're referring to.

2.Las chicas tomaban.

The imperfect tense here indicates a habitual action.

Try "estuvieron durmiendo" - I am just learning too,but this makes more sense than "estuvieron durmieron" - margarita1943, Apr 20, 2013

Ive already tried "estuvieron" and it was wrong. "Durmiendo" might work though - sam30317, Apr 20, 2013
