Irritating Blinky ads - These are very distracting from learning.

Question

I am getting weary of the numerous blinking, flashing, disturbing ads. They are extremely distracting to learning and sometimes I've even had to just get off the SD site altogether because there is no way I can concentrate on the flashcards or sentences I'm working on. Like right now, there is a blinky irritating ad telling me congratulations. I refuse to read any more of it even to describe it so I'm not influenced by the ad.

For many that have learning disabilities, in particular ADD, this is a learning nightmare.

Hi Katy. Yeah, I hate it when you move the mouse towards something and by the time you get there it has moved because something else nearby has changed size. These annoyances, though, are only going to get worse. Maybe try Julian’s suggestion. - brian5764, Apr 19, 2013

Katy, if you use Firefox browser you can download Adblock Plus and you will be free of these obnoxious adverts and your computer will work faster online as well. Both can be download for free.

I feel you Katy. An advert is one thing but it does not need to be in action or moving in any way unless activated by scrolling on it.

Sometimes when I am super -lonely it is nice to have someone/thing

Advertising dollars outweigh your needs as a language learner, LOL. It does suck though.

Yes, I know, advertising is necessary & provides for the site... it's the irritating strobes that finally force me off the site. There's no way I can concentrate so I have to quit. This seems to be a new thing since I've only noticed it lately. - katydew, Apr 19, 2013

Sure, I've been using it for a couple of years now. It's the neon strobe ads and the ones that blare music suddenly that make it impossible to keep going. I just finally shut it off last night. - katydew, Apr 19, 2013

I wrote an answer but I do not believe it went through. I do not have this problem, all of the ads are blocked so I guess I am pretty lucky, but I think that is also another reason that I am having some of the problems I am, like the flashcards. I found this

Reduced avertising on the site- 4000 reputation

but because you are way past 4000 I am not sure.

Just look at the upside it leaves you with less screen time if it is making you want to leave, which is always a good thing. Try Julian's suggestion and see from there!!

Are you using a laptop. I notice when I use wireless, the internet is slower. I have my laptop plugged into a router at home. The speed is much better. The pop-up blocker is on. I also use firefox now because I was having problems with Internet Ex.. - 0083f5dc, Apr 19, 2013
